Gun Control Although gun control laws are made to prevent violent outcomes, the influence which laws carry are the complete opposite to what one would think. Ever since the ratification of the Second Amendment, the debate on gun control has become a very heated topic. There is one side that believes that guns should be banned in order to stop any future tragedies from occurring. On the other hand, there is another side that believes guns are our cherished right to own and we should be allowed to use them freely. Even though many gun advocates believe that guns should be used in its continued free fashion, there are many tragic events occurring in the US almost everyday, that should lead to the scrutinization of guns. The Second Amendment†¦show more content†¦Although this event was mainly overseen, this occurrence added insult to injury as talks about gun control revolved around this issue, but no initial laws nor decisions were made. In the past twenty years, there has been an increase of major gun laws that have been able to prevent some tragedies and the wrongful sale of guns. Even though we are at a point where society has changed in the US, gun control has still been a controversial subject that doesn’t seem to have any compromise coming in its near future. Although guns can’t be directly banned, there have been many bills enacted in order to decrease the countless occasions of gun violence, such as adding background checks and adding tougher guidelines for purchasing a gun. In this article written by Abby Norman, she says, â€Å"It wasn’t until 1993 that background checks were instituted as a precursor to gun ownership which came as part of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act† (Norman, 2015). This law implemented a five day waiting period for a licensed manufacturer, seller, or importer to sell, transfer, or deliver a handgun to someone who is unlicensed. At first, this Act was successful as it was able to prevent the selling of over 70,000 handguns, although just four years later, the law ceased to apply in November 1 998.
